This Kvlt Albvm Ov The Weak is technically a new release. The music has been kicking about since 1990. Yet it’s only just recently seen the light of day. Hence the title. And it’s kvlt as fvck status. Bow down before the almighty Beherit.
2. Grave Desecration Vengeance
3. At The Devil’s Churns
4. Nocturnal Evil
5. Whores Of Belial
7. The Oath Of Black Blood
8. Six Days With Sadistic Slayer
A couple of these tracks made it onto later Beherit albums, The Oath Of Black Blood (actually another sort of demo album) and Drawing Down The Moon in particular. We’re offered two tracks never before heard and the tracks you will recognise are very rough early versions of songs that would come to define the Beherit sound. Which is essentially “let’s just be as fvcking evil as we fvcking can.”
It’s by no means a fantastic album, and when I saw they are rough versions, they are as raw as it gets. I don’t even think there’s any bass in these songs. But if you’re a Beherit fan, you’ll find something in here to enjoy. It’s interesting to hear how their sound developed over time. The legend is that Sadomatic Slaughter and Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance (not their real names) recorded this way back in 1990. Then promptly forgot all about it. Madness. Sadomatic Slaughter than happened across it one day, and the rest is history. That is, it was remastered and released into the wild in June this year.
Finnish black metal bands don’t get as much attention as their more well known Norwegian counterparts. Which is a shame, because Finland produce some absolutely INCREDIBLE bands. There’s something in the music that is able to blow you away, it’s not something I can put my finger on, but it’s noticeable. Perhaps it’s the catchy as hell riffs ? With Beherit it’s those vocals.
Dear sweet Satan those vocals (incidentally, Beherit is the Syriac word for Satan – total evil right ?). I can only imagine Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance (vocals) has been to the very depths of the ninth circle of hell and dredged up what can only be described as the most intensely filth laden, twisted, dirty performance you will likely ever hear. UGH.
The guitars are classic Beherit. Crunchy as all hell, and like I said above, some of the riffs are damn catchy. I don’t know how Finland do it, but the country consistently produces some amazing metal. See Behexen, Satanic Warmaster and Goatmoon. Again three bands who know the power of the riff. The drums are insane. Blast beat after blast beat, Sadomatic Slaughter constructs a huge wall and cacophony of sound. It’s difficult to really get into unless you’re used to the absolute gargantuan noise that this band makes.
If this is your first foray into the world of Beherit, then it’s probably not going to be for you. I strongly suggest getting involved with their “real” albums and once you’re fully immersed into them, pick this up.If you are a fan, then you will find much here to like. Because you just fucking hate this world.
Nocturnal Evil. Later heard on Drawing Down The Moon. Listen to that fvcking riff.
